Hello, I'm Sharmini T.

Sharmini Thomas, originally from Kerala, is a York-based Cookery Tutor who began conducting Indian Cooking Courses through City of York’s Adult Education over 20 years ago. In 2008, she decided to take the reins and start her own cookery school which led to the conception of Sharmini’s Inspirational Indian Cuisine. Sharmini’s broad expertise in Indian cuisine stems not only from her years of teaching but also from the rich culinary heritage that was passed down to her especially from her mother and grandmother. It comes as no surprise that her work has been recognised across the UK earning her the title of “The Curry Queen” as quoted in an article in the Sunday Times. Renowned for her delicious authentic curries, Sharmini has bested some of York’s top Indian Chefs including Bengal Brasserie, Jaipur Spice, and Rafi’s Spice Box by winning The Yorkshire Vision Curry Contest. Over the last 16 years, Sharmini has been demonstrating her authentic Indian recipes at the York Food & Drink Festival to enable and inculcate the habit of eating fresh home-cooked meals using locally sourced produce. We had a great time cooking along with Sharmini. She is very friendly and a great teacher. We learnt lots of little tricks and the food was fantastic!

Fab evening. Great timing as we were able to eat the most authentic Indian food I’ve ever cooked. The best part was the calm approach Sharmini has. There is no “ yes chef” anxiety in her kitchen. I’ll be doing more. Thank you

First time using zoom for a cookery lesson. Very positive experience. Sharmini was very clear with her instructions and a delight to talk to. The end result was a delicious meal and a few good tips for future cooking
